Following a limited competition, Flanagan Lawrence were commissioned to design two house types for a cliff and hill-top site overlooking the Mediterranean in Valdemossa, a village sitting to the north of Palma, the capital.

Our approach was to develop two distinct models which were driven by a response to their particular sites.

The hill top site is approached from below, and has the potential to create a series of public spaces on the ridge which frame views to the sea and to Palma beyond.

The cliff house is based on a traditional Mallorcan house concept – the courtyard – around which the public and private spaces are distributed.
