101 Embankment at the Structural Steel Design Awards
101 Embankment, the first building of Flanagan Lawrence’s two-phase development in Greengate, was awarded a Merit at the Structural Steel Design Awards in a ceremony last night (3 October).
The Structural Steel Design Awards celebrate excellence in the use of steel for architectural and structural design, and its potential in terms of efficiency, cost effectiveness, aesthetics and innovation. 2018 was the 50th year of the prestigious awards scheme.
101 Embankment is located in a unique urban context. Sitting on a Grade II listed viaduct and overlooking the cathedral, the project is an important piece in the regeneration jigsaw at the junction of Salford and Manchester. The modern steel and glass building appears as a lightweight, elegant structure sitting above the robust sandstone plinth.
The second building on the site, 100 Embankment, is currently underway.
